We had the privilege of welcoming in September two leading feminists and longtime Inter Pares collaborators:  Dr Asha El-Karib, senior strategic advisor to SORD (Sudanese Organization for Research and Development), as well as Augusta Henriques, an ardent defender of biodiversity and women's rights in Guinea-Bissau.

Dre Asha El-Karib en réunion avec les députés Bob Nault, Raj Saini et Dean Allison.During her visit, Asha participated in several panel discussions on violence against women, child marriage in Sudan, and women's role in peacebuilding processes. Her visit was also an excellent opportunity to raise awareness among parliamentarians about the current human rights situation in Sudan. Given the Canadian government's desire to be a world leader in promoting and protecting women's rights and gender equality, we hope that foreign policy, particularly towards Sudan, will reflect the understanding that Asha shared.

Augusta Henriques avec le livre de recettes de Tiniguena, qui valorise les ingrédients et saveurs traditionnellement guinéens. After a remarkable keynote address at Entraide Missionnaire's annual conference in Montreal, Augusta Henriques, cofounder of Tiniguena, stopped over in Ottawa to meet with Inter Pares staff and discuss Tiniguena's latest work in protecting biodiversity through citizen action and cultural promotion.

We were thrilled to welcome our inspiring friends whose struggles and efforts we will continue to support.
